John Armstrong, AccounTing

I am from Birmingham, AL and moved to Kansas City in 2007. I have been working in accounting within the Architecture or Civil Engineering industries since 1999. Prior to that, I worked for my family’s business and spent five years in the Army. During my time in the Army, not only was I fortunate enough to never be put in harm’s way, I was also stationed for nearly three years in Hawaii and traveled to Thailand twice for Cobra Gold – the largest multinational military exercise in which the United States participates.

Outside of work, I enjoy my time with my wife and family. We try and spend as much time outside as we can – whether it is camping, going out for picnic, or just walking around the neighborhood. In my spare time, back when I had some, I am (was) an avid cyclist and work(ed) at a local bike shop. I have ridden in the Hotter‘N Hell 100 and Leadville Trail 100 MTB as well as a few other endurance events. I also enjoy cooking, music of all sorts, and movies. I have more useless movie quotes stuck in my head than just about anyone you’ll know.

“The correct number of bicycles to own is n+1. While the minimum number of bikes one should own is three, the correct number is n+1, where n is the number of bikes currently owned. The equation may also be re-written as s-1, where s is the number of bikes owned that would result in separation from your partner.”   - The Velominati, Rule #12
